When a tooth falls out completely, one option is to consider non-surgical options like:
- Composite Bonding
All of these can create replicate the look and feel of a natural tooth, to the extent that observers may not be able to tell which teeth are real and which aren’t. They also don’t require surgery, which makes them perfect for anyone who needs a quick-fix solution.
So Why Get Implants?
Bridges and dentures only approximate a tooth’s function. They’re attached to other teeth or the soft tissue in your mouth, which means they’re not as strong as natural teeth attached to gums. This also means that the jawbone doesn’t have a tooth to support, which can cause bone loss and deterioration.
Getting implants solves all these problems. An implant is a very accurate imitation tooth that attaches itself to your jawbone, just like the real thing. This means that it’s extremely strong and durable. It also means that a patient’s jawbone doesn’t deteriorate. In short, an implant is the best way to fix a missing tooth.
Endosteal implants are inserted directly into the jawbone, where they fuse with your bone tissue to create a very robust implant-jaw connection. Endosteal implants take a week or two to recover from, on average, but they also tend to last a lifetime, which makes the time investment worthwhile.
If a patient is missing most or all of their teeth, we recommend All-on-Four implants, in which a set of full dentures is attached to 4 implants. These full dentures are highly similar to gums and real teeth, and since they only require four implants, they’re suitable for seniors and anyone who doesn’t want to go through countless surgeries and dentist visits.
Subperiosteal implants are a faster, less invasive procedure in which implants are attached on top of the jawbone instead of inside it. Subperiosteal implants have a number of disadvantages in the long run, mainly because they don’t fuse to your jawbone as thoroughly as endosteal ones, but they’re an excellent short-term solution, especially for seniors.
All the implants in our clinic are made from aseptic, hypoallergenic materials that won’t irritate a patient’s soft tissues or bones.
